Inside or Out?
While some decide to put their tubs inside a sunroom or greenhouse, the majority of hot tub owners put them outside.
Where will it go?
I already have a deck...
You might consider putting a hot tub on your existing deck though you'll need a specialist to examine the strength of the deck (hot tubs full of water are heavy!) Find a local hot tub dealer to come and determine if your existing deck is strong enough.
Where else can I put it?
Many hot tub owners decide to put their tubs on patios, on a new deck and some just put their hot tubs on concrete slabs. You can also set a spa into the ground or build a deck around it. Contact a local dealer for help in designing your backyard environment. A few examples are shown below.
Electricity
Most hot tubs run with electricity. Some need dedicated 230v service and some just 115v depending on the make and model. That means you'll have to run power to wherever you want the tub. Make sure you get an estimate as to the operating costs from your dealer. Cost should range from $25 (the better made hot tubs) to $100 a month (the un-insulated tubs with lots of pumps and jets) depending on the brand and size tub. Because many hot tubs lack solid insulation from our Maine climate, they just aren't suitable for us Mainers.
